Akiba Rubinstein’s Brilliant Queen Sacrifice!

The following is a game played between Gersz Rotlewi and Akiba Rubinstein in Łódź, Poland on 26 December, 1907. It features a brilliant queen and rook sacrifice by Rubinstein to force checkmate.

The game was dubbed Rubinstein’s Immortal Game by Hans Kmoch. Garry Kasparov described the game as “Rubinstein’s truly ‘immortal’ game” and “his most famous creation”.

Akiba Kiwelowicz Rubinstein (1 December 1880 – 14 March 1961) was a Polish chess grandmaster who is considered to have been one of the strongest players never to have become World Chess Champion.
