To continue the series on chess middlegames, I have covered a topic which is very important for conversion and for holding worse positions: playing up or down a pawn.

I used six thematic games in which different strategies were employed with varied success.

The plan and the approach to the position naturally changes depending on which side of an imbalanced position you are, and it’s important to know what to do when you have extra material, as well as when you’re material down.
