To continue the series on chess middlegames, I have covered the important strategic weapon of infiltrating your opponentโs seventh (or second) rank.
When achieved, a rook on the seventh is seen as a huge, almost decisive advantage in the middlegame, and it often creates tactical opportunities which could bring the game to a rapid end.
The middlegame is, of course, not as simple to learn as are openings or theoretical endgames, so there is no one easy formula for getting good at infiltrating the seventh rank. You become better at recognizing opportunities to do so and at creating and achieving strategic plans involving such maneuvers by analyzing games in which strong players have done it successfully.
I have used several thematic games. Look for more!
