Before Anand vs Topalov 2010 World Championship Match a military supercomputer (Blue Gene /P supercomputer, with 8792 processors and working on 1 PFLOPS (petaFLOPS)) was loaned to Topalov by Bulgaria’s Defense Department.
For local media Topalov comments, “During my preparation for the match, with Silvio Danailov we have decided to look for additional resources for my preparation against Anand. We decided to use the processing power of Blue Gene /P with 8792 processors.”
In Game 1, Topalov quickly defeated Anand in 30 moves, utilizing a very sharp line of attack that broke through Anand’s Grunfeld Defence, a line which was thoroughly analyzed by Topalov, including the winning line with Knight sacrifice!
