Today I played a training game in a setup I know quite well and which I have played numerous times, both online and in In rated otb tournament games – the Accelerated Dragon vs the Maroczy Bind (me being on the white side).

The setup with e4 and c4 for white, trying to put the breaks on d5 is, in my opinion, the best way for white to fight for an opening advantage against dragon setups in the Sicilian. My opponent went for a plan I’ve never seen before: early exchange of knights on d4, and immediate pressure on c4 with Be6 and Rc8. I managed to defend against it and later on gained the initiative, but I learned a valuable lesson and saw a new, (for me), and very dangerous setup black could use against me.

Here is the game:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 g6 5. c4 Nf6 6. Nc3 Nxd4 7. Qxd4 d6 8. Be2 Bg7 9. Qd1 O-O 10. O-O Be6 11. f3 Rc8 12. Qb3 Qb6+ 13. Qxb6 axb6 14. Nd5 Bxd5 15. exd5 Nd7 16. Rb1 Bd4+ 17.
