A very interesting training game in the Advance Caro-Kann which in which my opponent went for a scary Nxe6 piece sacrifice.
This is the third training game of the day. I faced a player with a provisional rating and I was black. He went for the Advance Variation of the Caro Kann and I played pretty well. I know the plans in that structure and I like playing it so I knew what to do with most of my pieces and I was aware of his threats.
In the middlegame, he went for a sacrifice which is thematic for the variation – a Nxe6 sac. I’ve lost games to that before. The most painful one was against Adhiban Baskaran in a simul last year. So I anticipated the sacrifice.
I calculated partially well. He can’t have taken, but I should have defended more precisely. He was winning at one point, but then he should have been more precise:)
