Harikrishna’s Octopus Knight Dominates in the Petrov

Featured is an excellent chess game between Pentala Harikrishna and Arseniy Nesterov from Round 2 of the 2025 FIDE World Cup. Out of the Petrov’s Defense, we see a sharp line where Harikrishna sacrifices his queen in exchange for a dominant octopus knight on d6 and a powerful dark-squared bishop. While the computer may slightly prefer Black, White’s position is far easier to handle, with pieces occupying strong and natural outposts. Harikrishna, led by his unassailable knight, maintains complete control throughout, forcing Nesterov’s resignation after only 29 moves.
