Caruana Cooks Niemann’s Italian in 28 Moves

Featured is a crushing chess game between Hans Niemann and Fabiano Caruana from Round 7 of the 2025 U.S. Chess Championship. Out of the Italian Game, Paris Defense, we reach a key moment after 5…Qf6. Niemann’s decision to castle allows Caruana to plant a dangerous pawn on f4, which soon becomes the spearhead of a brutal kingside attack. Although the evaluation after 6…f4 is roughly equal, the position is far easier for Black to play. It’s rare to see a 2700+ player fall with the white pieces in just 28 moves, but that’s exactly what happens here with Niemann.
