Featured is a sharp chess game between Alireza Firouzja and Ian Nepomniachtchi from the 2025 Speed Chess Championship. Out of a French Defense, Winawer, Alireza chooses 4. Ne2, entering the Alekhine–Maróczy Gambit. Nepomniachtchi declines the gambit and develops with Nf6, and the d4-square quickly becomes a focal point, typical of this opening. The position sharpens after Firouzja’s 8. f4, and with the center opening while Nepomniachtchi’s king remains uncastled, his position becomes critical. Nepomniachtchi misses the correct continuation on move 18 and is lost from that point. Firouzja concludes the game in style with an aesthetic 26th and final move.
