LeelaRookOdds’s Vienna Game is VERY Special – Who Needs Rooks?

Featured is a remarkable blitz chess game between LeelaRookOdds and Grandmaster “FeegLood” on lichess. Out of the Vienna Game, we first see an unusual deployment of the light-squared bishop to d3, where it blocks the d2-pawn and slows queenside development. The game quickly sharpens, with multiple pawns in tension after just four moves. By move eight, we reach a stunning position, LeelaRookOdds plays down both rooks, yet compensates with a massive pawn center and excellent piece activity. Despite this great material deficit, LeelaRookOdds manages to still win, and in just 20 moves!
