Awonderful Checkmate!!

Featured is an interesting chess game between Awonder Liang and Nikolas Theodorou from round 10 of the 2025 FIDE Grand Swiss, played on September 14th. Out of a Petrov’s Defense, play follows a deep line of theory until Theodorouโ€™s 22…f6 turns out to be a slight error. Liang plants an unassailable knight on g5, working together with his h6 pawn to keep the Black king stuck on the back rank. Liang then calmly brings his king up the board and finishes the game with an extremely rare and highly aesthetic checkmate.
