Semi-Averbakh: the ultimate Anti-King’s Indian

Beating the King’s Indian Defense is tough. I have tried many different variations against it, but the Semi-Averbakh is by far the most effective way to fight it.

The Semi-Averbakh is a variation that immediately prevents Black from doing what they normally do in the King’s Indian. Black loves to attack, they constantly seek active play with moves like f5, but our opening prevents that and turns the tables!

Instead of defending and playing on the queenside, which is the main-line plan against the King’s Indian, the Semi-Averbakh initiates an immediate kingside assault!
