Carlsen’s REVENGE vs Gukesh? | SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz 2025

This is an excellent rapid chess game between Magnus Carlsen and Gukesh D from Round 6 of the 2025 SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz Croatia. Out of the English Opening, Kramnik-Shirov Counterattack, all the minor pieces are for the most part ideally placed after just 15 moves. Gukesh’s 16th move, b5, leads to an interesting two bishops against two knights imbalance with all pawns remaining. While open positions often favor the bishop pair, this one requires deeper evaluation. Carlsen was almost certainly looking for revenge after their dramatic “table slam” encounter at Norway Chess just a month earlier.
