This is a sharp chess game between Levon Aronian and Andrei Volokitin from the 2008 European Club Cup. Facing the Slav Defense, Schlechter Variation, Aronian takes early steps to restrict Volokitin’s light-squared bishop. When Volokitin increases the pressure on c4 with …Be6, a tense battle unfolds. Aronian does not immediately resolve the tension but instead challenges the bishop, triggering an exchange and a shift in structure. His energetic 12.g4 already places Volokitin in a critical position, and from there, sharp play follows. Aronian comes out on top, but not before Volokitin’s king goes on a memorable walk straight into the enemy camp.
