Praggnanandhaa’s Benko Gambit Breaks Wesley So

Featured in an instructive chess game between Wesley So and Praggnanandhaa from round 8 of the 2025 Superbet Chess Classic Romania. Praggnanandhaa’s weapon of choice is the Benko Gambit, however after 12 moves it would be So who’s playing in gambit style and putting the pressure on Praggnanandhaa. A critical moment occurs after So’s 13th, Ne5. Precision was required of Praggnanandhaa, and after nearly 30 minutes of thought he found the top defensive resource that ultimately paved the way to a successful result.
