♛ Find the complete game where Bobby Fischer played the Lolli Attack in this blog-post – https://chess-teacher.com/lolli-attack-vs-fried-liver-attack/
Most beginners love the Fried Liver Attack—it’s flashy, aggressive, and can catch opponents off guard. But there’s one player who absolutely hated it: Bobby Fischer.
Why? Because Fischer believed it was unsound at higher levels. Instead, he preferred a stronger, more dangerous idea known as the Lolli Attack. In fact, he never played the Fried Liver.
The Lolli Attack (or Lolli Variation) arises from the Two Knights Defense in the Italian Game after: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5 6.d4.
In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov breaks down a masterpiece game by Bobby Fischer and explains the key differences between the Lolli Attack and the Fried Liver Attack.
You’ll discover why the move 6.d4 is so powerful—and how it gives White a stronger and more reliable initiative, even against solid defenders.
Learn the attacking ideas, critical moves, and the real reason Fischer favored the Lolli Attack.
Once you understand its concepts, you’ll never want to go back to the Fried Liver!
