Featured is an excellent positional game between Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş and Jorden Van Foreest from Round 10 of the 2025 European Chess Championship, held on March 25th. Out of a Philidor Defense, Lion variation there is first pawn tension that remains between d4 and e5, and then bishop tension. Neither side is too quick to release the tension is both cases. We near a critical moment when Erdoğmuş plants a pawn on a5. Van Foreest allows the pawn to remain which allows Erdoğmuş to provoke a weakness in black’s camp, and then exploit it. A tactically flurry towards the end brings home the full point for the 14-year-old Erdoğmuş.
