Featured is an excellent chess game between Nordirbek Abdusattorov and Gukesh D from Round 6 of the 2025 Tata Steel Masters Chess Tournament. The opening is an Italian Game where Abdusattorov quickly establishes a pawn on Gukesh’s queenside with 6. a5. This sparks a dark-squared bishop exchange. Gukesh drifts towards the kingside with an eye on the sensitive f4 square, but Abdusattorov’s stable rook post on e3 is there to defend against any tricks. Abdusattorov flushed the black queen from the kingside in short order and continued with an ever so slight initiative, but Gukesh with his precise play remained solid. Not long after the queen exchange, Gukesh blundered with 45…Kf8 and Abdusattorov obtained a decisive advantage. How exactly to convert the subsequent 3 pawns vs knight imbalance would be the question!
