Kasparov breaks Icelandic Chess Champion’s Vienna variation

Featured is a sharp chess game between Garry Kasparov and 2-time Icelandic Chess Champion Johann Hjartarson from 1989. Out of a Queen’s Gambit Declined, Three Knights, the eventual 6-time Icelandic Chess Champion chooses the Vienna variation. Shortly after Kasparov gives up his half dead c-pawn, he unleashes a star 19th move in Nf5. Hjartarson must then respond with back-to-back only moves to stay in the game, but he was unable to find the correct path.

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly.
