Niemann Attacks Carlsen with the Rossolimo

Featured is an instructive quarter-final blitz chess game (#2) between Hans Niemann and Magnus Carlsen from the 2024 FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship held in New York. In reply to Carlsen’s Sicilian Defense, Niemann chooses the Rossolimo Attack. After Carlsen’s e5, a battle ensues over black’s hole on d5. Note the instructive expedited maneuver by Niemann to fight for d5. Instead of following Carlsen’s castles by castling himself, Niemann places an emphasis on a fancy knight transfer to g4 which ultimately increases his control over d5. This game finishes in a very rare way for Carlsen.
