Volodar Murzin’s AMAZING King Walk vs Praggnanandhaa

Featured is an amazing king walk from the rapid chess game between R Praggnanandhaa and Volodar Murzin. The game was played in the penultimate round (12) of the 2024 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships. Before queens are exchanged, Murzin’s king takes his first step of what would be many up the board towards Praggnanandhaa’s king. The king walk is not objectively sound throughout, but it did pose just enough practical problems for Praggnanandhaa to solve. With only 1 second remaining on the clock Praggnanandhaa declined a repetition of moves in a winning position, and committed a serious blunder with his 34th move that completely turned the tables. Murzin’s win against Praggnanandhaa propelled him into the sole lead going into the final round, one where he would comfortably hold a draw. Volodar Murzin, at only 18 years old, won the 2024 World Rapid Chess Championship title by scoring 10/13.
