Featured is a 25+10 rapid chess game between Magnus Carlsen and Wesley So from round 5 of the 2024 Tata Steel India Rapid and Blitz. The opening is a Petrov’s Defense with So choosing 3…Nxe4, the Damiano variation. After only 9 moves, the queens are exchanged and Carlsen focuses his attention on So’s vulnerable c7 square. Despite the somewhat simplified endgame, the positions that arise require precise play on Carlsen’s part to maintain an advantage. Carlsen was more than up to the task on this day, registering an accuracy of 99%. Carlsen won the 2024 Tata Steel Rapid section with a score of 7.5/9 which translated to a remarkable performance rating of exactly 3000!
