♛ Find the Italian Game chess opening played by Paul Morphy in this blog-post – https://chess-teacher.com/italian-game-scotch-gambit/

Today, we’ll learn from the legendary chess player Paul Morphy how to play the Italian Game the right way so you can crush your opponents quickly. The Italian Game arises after the following opening moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4.

The aggressive variation we’re focusing on today emerges in the Two Knights Defense after Black responds with 3…Nf6. Here, we play 4.d4, sacrificing the e4-pawn.

This move is particularly effective at the beginner and intermediate levels, with White boasting a minimum 54% win rate for players below a 1600 ELO rating.

After Black captures the pawn with 4…exd4, we transition into the Scotch Gambit—a highly aggressive opening for White, full of deadly traps and numerous attacking opportunities.

And there’s no better example of its effectiveness than this spectacular game from Paul Morphy. His relentless attack led to a stunning victory in just 20 moves!
