In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov teaches you how to counter the tricky Evans Gambit as Black. This gambit, a highly annoying opening for Black, arises after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4.
If you’re not familiar with it, you run a high risk of falling into an early trap and losing within the next 5-10 moves.
GM Smirnov recommends an aggressive counter to the Evans Gambit by declining it with 4…Bb6. This move sidesteps a lot of complicated opening theory, making it much easier for you to learn and apply in your games.
