Upsets from the 2024 Chess Olympiad · Vincent Keymer and Anish Giri losing to “normal” Grandmasters

The Chess Olympiad always offers interesting pairings and brings very surprising upsets. This year is no exception. Super Grandmasters don’t often lose to mortals. When they do, I try to figure out what had gone wrong.

In round 3 of the 2024 Chess Olympiad, Italy faced the Netherlands and Lithuania faced Germany, resulting in two huge upsets on the first boards.
