Featured is an excellent chess game between Hou Yifan and Judit Polgar from the 2012 Tradewise Gibraltar. After Polgar connects knights with 6…Nge7, Hou sets her sights on the weakened d6 square. This weaknesses precipitates a series of exchanges, bringing us to the endgame phase by move 12. An especially instructive moment is Hou’s 19th move, an advanced idea with positional roots. After Polgar’s 20th move, d4, the game takes a significant turn where we soon observe one too many of Polgar’s pawns with targets on their backs.
