The Hillbilly Attack is an unsound opening. If you play the Caro-Kann, you should know how to refute it easily. I have shown an easy way to get a safe advantage against the Hillbilly whatever white plays!

White plays the Hillbilly to get an interesting attacking position and get the Caro-Kann players outside of their comfort zone and into tactical territory. We will not allow that! We will be a safe pawn up if they play the mainline gambit, and white will have zero attacking chances.

The Hillbilly is one of those openings that only works against unprepared opponents. If Black messes up, they could get mated, or just get a passive position for no reason. Follow the lines I’ve shown and you’ll never have trouble against it again!
