e4 players like sharp, open positions with tons of tactics and a quick attack. If you want to prevent that, you need a solid weapon which gives you the option to choose the nature of the position. That doesn’t mean that you can’t go for a wild, tactical variation. It means it’s up to you to decide the type of position you’d like to play. That is why the Caro-Kann is my favorite defense for black against e4. By far.
