LCZero defeats Hannibal with the Grünfeld

Featured is a game between Hannibal (1.7×64) and Leela Chess Zero (.445) from 2018. Leela Chess Zero plays the Grünfeld Defense and places an early emphasis on pawn play in the center, and next on the wings. The structure soon thereafter resembles the Mar del Plata variation out of the King’s Indian Defense, with LCZero obtaining a space advantage on both sides. After LCZero sacrifices an exchange, it becomes apparent that Hannibal’s play on the queenside is too slow compared to LCZero’s kingside attack.

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly.
