14-year-old Ediz Gurel is 99% accurate

Featured is an excellent kingside attacking combination by 14-year-old International Master Ediz Gurel of Turkey against Grandmaster Velimir Ivic of Serbia from the 2023 FIDE World Cup. The opening is an open Ruy Lopez with Gurel opting to blockade black’s d5 pawn with 12. Nd4. Gurel’s sacrifice was thematic, but required him to calculate several moves ahead, with a couple of those moves being quiet. The FIDE World Cup 2023 (Open Section) is a 206-player Single Elimination tournament held in Baku, Azerbaijan from July 29th to August 24th.
