The final day of the Armageddon Series Women’s Week was crowned a winner! The first match saw Gunay Mammadzada and Humpy Koneru go at it for their chance to not only reach the finals but also the Grand Finale in September. While Humpy was incredibly convincing in her first white game, it seemed that Gunay was on the ropes. However, thinking she’d just wait and die would have been naive. In her white game, the Azeri player displayed incredible technique to overcome world number two and force Armageddon! There, Humpy played one of her best games of the tournament, and it was Gunay’s turn to exit the tournament in a glorious third place!
It was then Humpy Koneru versus Bibisara Assaubayeva. The two had tangoed already, and the clash had turned in Bibisara’s favor after a bumpy Armageddon. The player from Kazakhstan was ruthless this time, as she swiftly demolished Humpy in game one, before holding tight in game two and overpowering her experienced opponent in their mutual zeitnot. Bibisara is our Champion, and Humpy is the runner-up! You’ll see these two in September for our Grand Finale! Final shots, the end of it all (almost), an elated winner, don’t miss out on the images: this is Armageddon!
