Day two of Women’s Week was not a quiet affair.
In match one of the day, Alexandra Kosteniuk put max pressure on Humpy Koneru with the white pieces but Humpy kept her cool, weathered the storm, and eventually turned the tables, thus winning with the black pieces! She was never worried during her white game, and she edged Alexandra out in our first match of the day. The second match saw a unique scenario: Nana was not outplayed over the board, but she outplayed herself on the clock, as she lost her two games by flagging! Her opponent, 2-time Blitz World Champion Bibissara Assaubayeva happily punched her ticket to the Winner’s bracket.
