The first match of the day saw Parham Maghsoodloo win his two games against Vidit Gujrathi, while in the second match, Nodirbek’s plan of playing solid with black and putting pressure with white worked exactly the opposite: he won both games, but the scenario was altogether unexpected, and he even survived with white by the skin of his teeth!
