There aren’t many secret weapons against the Caro-Kann which are both rare and extremely powerful. This, in fact, may be the only one. The Bayonet Attack is very tough to deal with because it forces black out of his comfort zone and into a French or into an open king position which is hard to navigate.
I prepared for this game extensively and only got a good position because of my preparation. I played the best engine line in the opening and gave up two pawns temporarily in order to disturb my opponent’s development, weaken his position, and regain them later on.
