Tactics are something you can get better at by reinforcing patterns and training endlessly. Strong players have an almost intuitive, subconscious way of seeing and playing or defending against tactical motifs without having to search for them in a position. That tactical awareness is what I lack, or, at least, haven’t developed as much as I would like to.
That is why games like this are priceless in my training. This game was all tactics. No maneuvering, no strategy, simply calculating and making sure you haven’t blundered anything. It worked fine until I got into time trouble.
