Tactics always become possible when pieces are allowed to infiltrate and reach outposts around the king. In this case, one weakness was terminal. Trading squares gave the knight the f5 square, creating a monster controling half the board, and the imagined compensation was irrelevant. After giving up the f5 square, the game was strategically and tactically lost.
