An almost perfect attack ยท Training Game

Attacking in chess is about bringing all of your pieces into play and making sure that what you’re giving up for that attack is going to be either too slow to give your opponent compensation or simply insignificant.

In this case it was the former. My opponent had the semi-open g-file towards my king, and he started the attack with sacrificing a piece to open my king position. I was running short on time very quickly and his strategy paid off. I should have lost the game and a better player would have mated me. The lesson is, don’t underestimate your opponent’s chances! Make sure you understand what they want to do before grabbing material!
