In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov analyzes a game played by the 12-year old Magnus Carlsen in which he played completely “out of the world” moves and sacrificed his pieces one after the other, like Mikhail Tal!
The young chess prodigy played brilliant, counter-intuitive moves that are really hard to spot in a practical game. Carlsen refused to accept his opponent’s pawn sacrifice for initiative and activity.
And later, he delivered a couple of sacrifices to open up the kingside and deliver a spectacular checkmate It’s no wonder that this kid went on to become the world champion!
