The Steinitz Defense starts out with the moves 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 d6 and is thought to be a solid but passive defense for black against the Ruy Lopez. In this video we explore some of the more aggressive lines black can take in the Steinitz Defense so they keep the solid structure, but don’t end up with a cramped position.
