This game highlighted one of my weaknesses – not investing enough time and not thinking enough in critical positions.
I played a lower rated opponent who had given me two opportunities to get a close to winning position straight out of the opening. I could have chosen to play the critical moves twice in the first 7 moves. Had I played either one, the game would have probably ended much sooner.
I didn’t though, and, instead of playing the obviously most punishing continuation, I played more passively, simply because I didn’t think it worth it to invest a lot of time to calculate. I could have been punihed for that.
