I faced the Croatian women’s chess champion in a mad attacking game and got scared.
I chose a variation of the London in which white gives up a pawn for a great initiative and simply has to attack in order to justify his play. I did so, and well too, and got a very nice position, much easier for me to play, in which most of her pieces stood badly, and in which things could fall apart for her in a matter of moves. One mistake could have ended the game.
I knew I was better, but I had no idea by how much, and I was also too weak to know how to cleanly cpnvert my advantage. So, in a critical position, I offered a draw. She accepted. Now I regret it and wich I’d played on. After the game I was happy though. So much more work to be done…
