The importance of trading pieces when it favors you, and declining trades when they favor your opponent can clearly be seen in this game. It was decided by one incorrect piece trade.
I faced a strong Fide master in the Croatian league, and, after having gotten a pleasant, equal position, in which I had no issues at all, I initiated a piece trade that made my position collapse in a matter of moves. One trade lost me the game.
Learn from this. Never trade unless you’ve carefully considered the consequences.
