In round 1 of the Barcelona Open I faced a very strong Fide Master. Early on in the opening, I decided to lay a cunning trap which would win his queen for two rooks and give me a better position.
And I got it in. He “fell” for it. And my position was almost completely lost. I have misjudged the trap completely, giving him a fairly easy middlegame in which all the active plans were his, all the open files and infiltration squares were given to him on a platter. I chose to go for a bad position.
A mistake like this is probably due to lack of visualization skills, as, when the position arose on board, I became perfectly aware I was much worse. Lost even. Be careful when setting traps. They may just be rubbish.
