Tactical patterns and sacrifices in the Sicilian · Road to GM, Game 183, 184

My favorite game of the tournament was a mad tactical Sicilian in which I’d given up a piece for activity very early on with a typical Nd5 sacrifice.

My opponent was a very strong, young player, whose rating is way below what it should be. He plays sharp openings, and plays them very well. He is very strong tactically and calculates precisely. I chose to play a sharp position against him, which may not have been the best idea, but I wanted to play aggressively.

We played the Adams Attack in the Najdorf, and I went for a typical knight sacrifice in the center, which usually gives white a very quick and often deadly attack. The downside is, if you mess up for a move or two, you are a piece down!
