In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shares with you a really powerful chess opening trap for White which happens in the Queen’s Gambit Declined after the opening moves: 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6. He also shares with you the funny story behind the Rubinstein Trap.
The trap takes its name from Akiba Rubinstein, who had the misfortune of falling into it twice, in the games Max Euwe–Rubinstein, Bad Kissingen 1928, and Alexander Alekhine–Rubinstein, San Remo 1930.
In this trap, Black loses a pawn after Nxd5 due to the threat of his queen being trapped on the back rank by White’s Bc7.
At the end of the video, GM Igor Smirnov also challenges you with a tactical quiz. Watch till the end and see if you can find the winning move to the puzzle.
