In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shows you a game played between the former world chess champion Garry Kasparov and Fritz chess computer at Cologne Blitz in the year 1992. It was the first encounter between a human and a fairly strong chess computer program, although it was not as strong as modern day computers.

In this mind-blowing blitz game, Kasparov was in the driver’s seat and he sacrificed his queen in the middlegame. There were some comments that the computer, Fritz, froze for a while and broke down, confused with Kasparov’s sacrifice, not knowing what to do.
