Looking for trouble in Moscow · Road to GM, Game 157

In round five I faced a 10 year old wunderkind. You can imagine how that felt.

My opponent was a very talented and very young player from Kazakhstan. He is already a Candidate master at the age of 10 (maybe 11, I’m not sure). I had prepared for the game with him very seriously, but, after having looked at normal lines I play against his repertoire, I’d decided to experiment with the Moscow Sicilian.

That was a bad decision. I got into a position I was unfamiliar with right out of the opening, and my opponent tried to simplify as much as possible. I tried to keep the tension, avoid the trades, and complicate the position. I failed.
