Knowing what to do in complex positions, and being able to focus on the broader picture, key features of the position instead of on single moves or calculation is chess strategy. Developing this skill takes time, and the best way to do so is to learn from instructive games in which key strategic decisions were made or were offered to be made. That way we can learn to recognize important moments in our ouwn games more quickly, and we can add the patterns we see to our own brain library.
