The Chigorin Defense forces white to play very precisely in order to prove that Nc6 is a dubious move. 3.cxd5, the Exchange Variation, simply takes away a lot of pressure off of white’s position and attempts to grab space, the bishop pair, and the advantage!

The Exchange Chigorin is very simple to play and involves plans instead of learning tons of opening theory (which is always great). You always get the bishop pair, as black has no alternative to the 6 forced moves out of the opening, and you almost always have a decent space advantage which black has to break before trying to equalize.
