Pins are one of the most common chess tactics. They can be done with bishops, rooks or queens. They are very dangerous for your opponent because your opponents pieces cannot move and are therefore good targets. A complete chess strategy should certainly involve the use of pins. The most common pin that you will see in a chess game is when a bishop pins a knight to either the king or the queen, preventing the knight from moving. Beginners to chess should definitely spend some time learning this important skill.
